Assessment for learning
Upon admission, a baseline assessment is undertaken and used in conjunction with pupils’ statements of special educational needs to develop Individual Education Plans (IEP), Behaviour Plans (IBP) and where relevant Placement Plans (IPP).
These person-centred plans detail pupils’ individualised academic, leisure and therapy programmes and highlight areas of ability and need as well as personal aims and aspirations. This information is then used to form short term goals or outcomes.
Each pupil has their own key worker who works in partnership with them and their families, and alongside education, care and therapy staff, to develop these outcomes and continually evaluate and record progress. Multi-disciplinary working ensures that staff maintain a consistent approach across the academic and non academic day.
Supporting pupils to identify and evaluate their own progress and achievements enables them to take ownership of their learning and make important choices about their futures.
