Our Safeguarding Commitment

At Gretton School, the safety, well-being, and happiness of our learners are at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to maintaining a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment where every young person is respected, heard, and protected from harm.

Safeguarding is Everyone's Responsibility

Safeguarding at Gretton is embedded in our daily culture. In line with KCSIE, all staff members receive regular safeguarding training, read Part One of KCSIE, and know how to identify early signs of concern or vulnerability. Staff record all safeguarding concerns promptly on MyConcern (our secure digital recording system) to ensure early, joined-up action.

Support for Learners

Learners at Gretton School are encouraged to speak to any member of staff if they have concerns, questions, or worries and are also made aware of the safeguarding team members by posters up and around the school. Designated Safeguarding Team members are highlighted on posters across all school sites.

Learners also have access to a dedicated confidential email address using their school account: worried@grettonschool.com

Information for Visitors & Contractors

Visitors and contractors are asked to speak to a member of the Safeguarding Team immediately if they have any concerns regarding the safety or welfare of learners or staff while on site. All visitors receive a Safeguarding Information Leaflet upon arrival at reception detailing emergency procedures and reporting pathways.

Anti-Bullying, Respectful Culture & Child-on-Child Abuse

Gretton School adopts a proactive, zero-tolerance approach to bullying, discrimination, harassment, and prejudice.

Child-on-Child Abuse: In line with KCSIE 2026 guidelines, abusive behaviors, sexual harassment, or harmful online actions are never dismissed as "banter" or a normal part of growing up.
Proactive Response: We work actively with learners to build understanding, promote empathy, and address negative behaviors early.
Reporting an Incident: If you or your child have concerns regarding bullying or peer dynamics, please speak to a member of staff or click below to submit an incident report. A member of our team will review the report and contact you during school hours to discuss next steps.

Early Help Offer

We recognise that proactive, early help prevents challenges from escalating and supports positive family outcomes.

Team Around the Family (TAF) & Team Around the Child (TAC): Our safeguarding and pastoral teams convene TAC and TAF meetings to coordinate wrap-around care for young people and their families.
Multi-Agency Collaboration: In alignment with local authority Families First Partnership (FFP) models, we work seamlessly with Local Authority Family Help practitioners, social care teams, CAMHS and specialist support services.
Attendance as a Protective Factor: Regular attendance is key to learner well-being and progress. We work closely with families to identify and resolve barriers to attendance early.
Local Offer: Families seeking broader community provision are invited to explore their Local Authority's Local Offer - Cambridgeshire Local Offer. All local authorities will have this service, which we can support with signposting and accessing.

Online Safety & Digital Wellbeing

Keeping learners safe in the digital world is an essential component of our safeguarding arrangements.

Filtering & Monitoring: Our school devices and networks utilise Smoothwall Cloud Filtering to provide robust, real time protection and monitoring against inappropriate content or online risks.
Curriculum & AI Awareness: In line with updated guidance, our online safety education covers safe internet usage, cyberbullying, image sharing, and emerging online risks (including AI technology).
Parental Resources: We often share online safety guides and updates with parents and carers via our newsletters to support safe digital habits at home.

Pastoral Care & Social Development

The approach to pastoral care at Gretton School is as individualised as the learners who join us. We operate an open-door policy and work on the principle that every day is a new day.

Consistency & Stability: Our pastoral staff have extensive experience working with neurodivergent learners, ensuring every child feels accepted, cared for and safe as they prepare for adulthood.
Restorative Practice: Gretton School offers learners the opportunity to reflect and work restoratively to repair and nurture relationships.
Social Development & Clubs: Learners benefit from a rich variety of extra-curricular clubs (from football to Dungeons & Dragons) and Friday afternoon special interest sessions, enabling them to build confidence, make friends, and overcome challenges outside the classroom.
PSHE & Values: Through structured PSHE sessions and everyday learning opportunities, learners explore moral, social, and cultural topics in a safe, guided environment.
