Speech and Language Therapy
Who we are:
The Speech and Language Therapy (SaLT) team at Gretton School helps learners to develop their speech, language and communication skills. This helps them to access the curriculum and activities, both academic and social, throughout the school day.

How we work:
Speech and Language Therapists can work with learners individually and/or in small groups as well as in the classroom. We also work closely with school staff in addition to the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) such as Occupational Therapy and Creative Therapies to support the learners’ communication skills holistically across the day.

What we do:
Speech and Language Therapists work may work with learners to:
-
develop their communication, language and advocacy skills in small groups, for example via Lego based therapy groups and similar group work activities
-
develop their skills in understanding and expressing themselves with the vocabulary and language surrounding emotions and feelings, and/or developing vocabulary related to key areas of the curriculum and topic work, such as in PSHE
-
develop their speech clarity
-
develop their ability to express themselves effectively with a cohesive narrative, for example, helping them to recap what had happened in their day

We can be flexible with the areas supported, dependent on need, such as developing vocabulary and target language related to transitional stages in school, or shifting the focus to life skills, friendships and relationships.
