Curriculum Information
Maths
Fractions, percentages, ratio, solving simple equations, charts and finding the average, problem solving, angles.
English
In English this term, we will introduce the learners to William Shakespeare by reading extracts from his various plays, specifically focussing on some of his most interesting and well known villains.
Learners will read the extracts, and analyse the language used to create compelling villains that audiences react to, a skill they will develop with one eye on the English Literature curriculum as we move towards the end of key stage 3.
After half-term, we will move on to studying non-fiction texts, with a focus on persuasive writing such as speeches and letters. Learners will read examples of these types of writing, as well as writing their own. This will help prepare the learners for the Functional Skills 1 exams that we are hoping to sit towards the end of the academic year.
Science
Light, Combustion, Breathing and Respiration, Space and Metals and their uses.
History
In History this term, we will start by finding out about the English Civil War and the trial and execution of Charles I. After half term, we will be looking at how Parliament and Oliver Cromwell governed the Commonwealth. We will then examine the Restoration of Charles II and the major events of his reign including the Great Plague and Great Fire of London.
Geography
In Geography this term, we will start by exploring the topic of coasts and how our coastline has many different features. We will look at the importance of waves in creating coastal features and investigate coastal flooding and coastal sea defence. After half term, we will be finding out about different types of weather systems and investigate the weather and the climate in the UK and around the world.
RE
In RE this term, we will be exploring many aspects about Buddhism. We will examine the life of Buddha, how Buddhists believe they should lead their lives, the different groups of Buddhists and features of monastic life, temples and significant places in Buddhism. We will also explore Buddhist scriptures, daily life for Buddhists and some of the major festivals that Buddhists celebrate.
ICT
After a review of Google Slides and Google Sheets (documents, presentations, inserting videos and images), we will move onto the computer hardware, covering CPU, ROM and RAM.
Food Technology
Learners will revisit some basic home cooking and create both sweet and savoury dishes to refresh their skills and knowledge.

Spring 1- Growing and Changing- Different life stages and how our body develops mentally and physically.
Spring 2- Bullying, online safety and discrimination. Exploring how to spot, navigate and deal with bullying, racism, discrimination and maintaining online safety.
Mandarin
Spring 1 - Numbers(1-99), months of the year, days of the week, dates, Chinese New Year.
Spring 2 - dates, age and birthdays, family members, pets and animals.
