Curriculum Information for Sixth Form

Year 11/12 English Language
Teachers: Mrs Margarita, Miss McGhee, Mr Sullivan

Learners will be revising for their upcoming GCSE examinations. They will hone grammar and punctuation skills to improve upon the structure of their written work and revisit the format of the various forms of writing. In addition, they will examine the style and content of the more complex questions in the GCSE, as well as completing some practice papers.

Upon completion of exams, learners will begin reading the novel ‘Of Mice and Men’ to give them the opportunity to develop the skills needed for English Literature and improve upon reading comprehension skills.

Year 13 English Literature IGCSE
Teacher: Mrs Margarita
In preparation for the upcoming examinations, learners will be analysing the characters, themes and settings within the novel ‘Of Mice and Men’. As part of their revision, they will be writing essays, reviewing past paper questions, revising key quotations and practising the PEEL structure, in order to aid their essay writing.

Maths

Teacher: Mr Stephen
We will continue to prepare for Functional Skills and GCSE exams by looking at a variety of topics which will mostly be led by learner enquiry.

Physics

Teacher: Mrs McCran
We will be reviewing and revising various topics from the syllabus as well as practising exam technique.

​

Biology

Teacher: Mr Doza
Health, disease and the development of medicines starts off the term, with a look at lifestyle diseases and communicative diseases. Pathogens and how they are spread and the use of antibiotics is also covered. This is followed by plant structure and function, how plants move food and water around from root to leaves, the process of photosynthesis and its limiting factors and how plant cells are adapted for their function.

Year 13&14 Preparation for Adulthood

Teacher: Mr Rowntree

Learners will be viewing and discussing the Netflix drama “Adolescence” as part of our discussions around keeping safe and understanding the influences of others. They will have a visit from a Police Community Support Officer as part of discussions around personal responsibility and safety and we will undertake further cooking tasks and social activities.


PSHE

Teacher: Mr Watkins
In PSHE this term, learners will revisit a number of topics from the curriculum over the years, aimed at the learners on an individual and collective basis. These will be content such as relationships, sustainability, moving on to future employment and independence, alongside growth mindset and developing resilience. Equally, with exams upon us, learners will also have the chance to develop their revision and study skills in preparation.

Careers: 
Learners will engage in conversations around adulthood and independent living, including conversations on household tasks and responsibilities, maintaining friendships into adulthood and other learner-led topics. Each learner will give their own point of view to show their understanding of each topic.

Option Subjects

​

Art:

Learners are all working on either completing their Bronze or Silver Arts award units. For those that are remaining in Sixth Form, now that they have completed unit 2 of their Silver Arts Award (the leadership unit) they are resuming their own chosen practical projects for unit 1 part A.

​

ICT:
The term will be spent completing the Digital Portfolio module, which focuses on the skills the learners have gained in previous units, presenting these in a way that can be used to market their skills in the workplace.

​

Computer Science A level:
We have covered all of the content. Once we have looked at exam technique and the exam board’s use of Pseudocode, learners will spend time revising individually and receiving help in specific areas of need.

​

BTEC Creative Digital Media

Teacher: Mr Rowntree
Learners will be completing coursework for CDM in preparation for the final submission. They have sat and passed their exams.

​

Drama: 
We are currently working towards the Grade 7 (Level 3) exam in Acting scheduled for the weekend 5/6th July.

​

Psychology GCSE:

Teacher: Dr Allouis
We will be reviewing and revising all topics from the syllabus as well as practising exam questions and technique.

​

Sociology:

Teacher: Ms  Porter
This term the Sociology learners are sitting their final GCSE exams.
Our lessons leading up to the exams will involve revision and exam technique and practise.

​

Food Technology

Teacher: Mr Langsdon
During this term learners will be making various sweet and savoury dishes that they will be able to make again at home with limited help and support. Learners continue to evaluate the food that they produce and continue to learn about Food Hygiene.

 

Design Technology:

Learners are working through their NCFE Level 1 with a view to most learners completing this level by the end of the Summer term. Learners have specifically been entered into either Creative Craft, Textiles or Construction.
