Forgive me if this is a little self congratulating but as some of you may know it has been an exciting time within the Residential Services here at Gretton.
As we are a Residential provision we are inspected annually by OFSTED and for the last four years we have achieved outcomes of “Outstanding” for the provision. To achieve “outstanding” judgement is no mean feat as you have to show that you are continuing to make progress in all areas, so to achieve it for the last 4 years, as we have done, is truly amazing!
Back in February 2026, OFSTED carried out this year's inspection. Cambridgeshire, who would usually carry out the inspection, asked inspectors from the North of England to conduct this year's inspection to ensure a fresh pair of eyes looked at Gretton Residential and therefore to ensure there was no complacency on their behalf.

The inspection took place on the 10th February through to 12th February. Over the course of three days, inspectors looked at all areas of the boarding provision: from safeguarding through to management; from accommodation and facilities to knowledge and expertise of staffing; and from learner enjoyment and stimulation to outcomes and progress made by them. It was a very busy three days and they conducted a very thorough inspection.
We have now received their final report and we are so pleased to share that for the FIFTH year in succession we have achieved the judgement of “OUTSTANDING” in all areas!
The inspectors took time and spoke with all residents and staff and they commented that:
“The residential special school provides highly effective services that consistently exceed the standards of good. The actions of the school contribute to significantly improved outcomes and positive experiences for children and young people.”
I would like to share my thanks with all those who were involved in the inspection, as well as those who continued to support our learners whilst it took place. I know I’ve said this before, but I truly enjoy being part of the Gretton team. Every day, I see the commitment, care and support our staff provide, and the positive difference this can make to the young people we work with.

This report reflects that collective effort and the impact it has on our learners. While it is always lovely to receive recognition, our focus remains firmly on creating the best possible environment for our young people, where they feel safe, included and able to grow.
At the heart of this is our relational approach - taking the time to understand each learner, offering support and guidance, and helping them navigate the challenges they may face.
